The mountain looming in the background is Canigou, the easternmost summit in the Pyrenees (2,784 m / 9,280 ft), visible wherever you are on the plains of Roussillon. Closer to the site, there’s a nature reserve at Sigean that will have you wondering whether you’re on an African safari: the animals roam free.
