Knaus campingpark Viechtach****
Set in a quiet location at the foot of a green hill, just a few kilometres outside the village of Viechtach. This top class campsite has a heated indoor pool with a sauna and a sunbathing area. There are other modern facilities including a well-maintained, modern sanitary building. The restaurant serves delicious meals and there's a friendly bar. Although the indoor pool is not large, there's a large pool complex less the 1km away. There are some shops and a main square in the quiet village of Viechtach. The campsite is also quiet but does offer an entertainment programme and a disco in high season.

The Bohemean Forest on the border of Germany and the Czech Republic continues west to the Bavarian Forest nature reserve. For a walk with a different twist, take your children to Wald Wipfel Weg near St Englmar. This is a 370 metres long pathway that has been constructed on 30 metre high wood blocks so that you have a view of the tree tops. Visit Neunssberg castle, which is a fortress from the 14th century or enjoy a steam train ride along the Regan river banks. There are two large river basins for safe bathing and water-based fun. The one near Kötzing has a beach andyou can sail here also.
