However, it is the splendid beach, just a short stroll away, that is likely to be the chief attraction for families. Basking in long hours of sunshine, the island is ringed with such superb sandy beaches, ideal for swimming and windsurfing. Reached by a toll bridge from the mainland, the Ile de Ré is also a delight to explore.
