Hampen So***
A fairly small campsite situated approximately 800m from Lake Hampen.

The Lake is a pleasant place for swimming and the children will enjoy playing with their dinghy's. There is also a sports ground at the lake and a picnic area. The campsite has a playground, a swimming pool, a model car track and large children's bouncy cushions, which are very popular at Danish campsites. The campsite is very clean and well laid out with a good sanitary building. Other facilities include an indoor leisure room, a supermarket and a good restaurant. Children will thoroughly enjoy a visit to Legoland, which is only 35km south of the campsite.

Around a hundred years ago the green Mid Jylland area used to have lots of wide open moorland. However times moved on and sheep were no longer tended by the shepherds so the moorland changed and became more forested. The old lakes that were part of the moors are now to be found in the heart of the forests. One of the highest of these is Lake Hampen or, as they say in Denmark, Hampen Sø. However there are still sections of moorland to be found displaying their purple bloom to the full towards the end of the summer season. The long meandering paths are a delight to walk along. One interesting route, which is close to the campsite, is over the old railway that is still in service, the old train will take you through beautiful countryside to Vrads. For those interested in history, there are old Viking tombs in the hills near to Hampen that can be visited.
